What we keep, and why.
Who we are
LanceBid ("we") is a public visibility board for freelancers and local service providers, operated from Quebec, Canada. Anything about your personal information goes to contact@lancebid.com. The operator of LanceBid is the person in charge of the protection of personal information under Quebec law.
What we collect
Listing data you type in: your name or business name, your pitch, a link, a category, a rate band, an optional city, and an email address. Everything except the email is displayed publicly on the board. The email is used to send you your manage link and, when a visitor presses Contact on your card, to open an email to you. That means visitors who press Contact see your email address.
Bid attempts: every attempt to list or bid, whether it succeeds or not, is recorded with the data you submitted, the amount, the outcome, any error, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string. We keep this so we can reach you if a payment fails and to prevent abuse.
Payments: card details go to Stripe, never to us. We store the Stripe session and payment identifiers, the amount, and the payment status. Stripe emails you a receipt at the address you used.
Board metrics: a click on your link or a press on Contact is stored as an event with the listing, the type, and the time. To count each visitor once per hour we keep a short-lived key derived from the visitor's IP address in memory only; it is never written to the database.
Analytics and preferences: we use Google Analytics 4, which sets its own cookies. Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage. Our servers keep ordinary access logs (IP address, requested page, time) for a limited period.
Why we use it
To run the board: show your card, rank it by your bids, count clicks and contacts honestly, and send you the manage link that lets you edit your listing without an account.
To take payment and keep the accounting records the law requires. To detect and stop abuse, fraud, and card testing. To answer you when you write to us.
Who else sees it
Stripe (payments), Amazon Web Services (the email service that sends manage links), Google (analytics), and our hosting provider OVH, whose servers for this site are in Canada. Each of them processes data only to provide its service to us. We do not sell personal information and we do not run advertising on your data.
How long we keep it
Your listing stays as long as it is listed; removed listings are hidden and their data is deleted on request. Bid attempts and payment records are kept for seven years because they are financial records. Click and contact events are kept as aggregate history for the board. Server logs are rotated within weeks.
Your choices and rights
You can edit your card at any time with your manage link, and ask us to resend it from the listing form. To remove your listing or to get a copy of the personal information we hold about you, email contact@lancebid.com from the address on the listing; we answer within 30 days. Removal does not refund bids. If you think we have handled your information badly, you can also complain to the Commission d'acces a l'information du Quebec or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Age
LanceBid is for adults. Do not list yourself if you are under 18.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top of this page. Material changes are announced on the board.
